Radio monitoring · a bit late

The Kyle & Jackie O reports

I built a machine to listen to a breakfast radio show so you didn't have to. It was seven weeks old when the show ended.

The situation

The Kyle & Jackie O Show was a breakfast show on KIIS 1065. In January 2026 I started recording it every weekday, along with the evening hour.

What I did

Each recording was trimmed to the speech, transcribed with speakers labelled, and read by an AI against the kinds of content broadcasting codes care about: racist, homophobic or sexist remarks, bullying, threats, and so on. Every flag had to come with an exact quote, a timestamp and who said it, and mild swearing and banter were deliberately not flagged. Advertisers were tracked from the station's own stream data. It all went up on a public site.

How it turned out

Then the show came off air in early March 2026, about seven weeks in. ARN cited Kyle Sandilands's conduct on air on 20 February.

The credit belongs to the Mad Fucking Witches, who spent nearly two years running an advertiser campaign against the show. By their own count, about two thousand advertisers walked. This little project turned up too late to be much use. They did the work.

Recording stopped in September 2026. Everything is archived.
