The situation

Safe in Sound brings live improvised music to people with disability, at home, in venues and at an annual festival. Its site was WordPress with the Divi page builder and a stack of plugins. The builder kept some section photos out of the page itself, one artist's bio was a single full stop, and the festival and research pages were 'coming soon'. The old database didn't even hold the text of past festival pages.

What I did

I rebuilt it as a static site on Cloudflare, set in a typeface designed for low-vision readers, with an editor in the browser that the founder now uses himself. The 2023–25 festival pages were recovered from the Internet Archive's copies, because they existed nowhere else.

Small Cloudflare services handle the contact form, video uploads, and a newsletter with double opt-in. Photos are resized on the fly: one event page went from 4.3 MB to 215 KB.

How it turned out

26 pages, edited by the people who run the program. Most of the commits in the repository are theirs, not mine.
