Most websites for a band, an artist, a small business or a community group are a handful of pages that change a few times a month. WordPress, Wix and Squarespace are built for far more than that, and you pay for it: a monthly plan, hosting, plugin and theme renewals, security updates, and a login you can't let lapse.
I move sites like these to static sites on Cloudflare. The pages are built once and served from Cloudflare's network, so there's far less to hack, nothing to patch, and for a site this size, usually nothing to pay for hosting. What's left to pay is usually just your domain name.
You still edit it yourself
In the browser, with a simple editor for your gigs, posts, photos and pages. No code.
It’s yours
It runs on your own Cloudflare and GitHub accounts, not mine. If I vanished tomorrow you’d lose nothing.
Nothing breaks on the way
Old page addresses redirect to the new ones, and your email comes across too.
Looking after several sites? One musician I work with looks after five: her own, two bands, a gig calendar and a composer’s archive. Two have already moved and the other three are built and waiting. Once they’re all across, that’s five subscriptions she doesn’t pay. If that sounds like your inbox, the same move works one site at a time, at your pace.
