The subscription lapsed. The site was rebuilt from an archived copy, and now looks after itself.

The situation

Splinter is a radically inclusive large-scale improvisation orchestra in Sydney. Its website was on Squarespace, and the subscription had expired.

What I did

A complete archived copy of the old site had been taken in January 2026, so I rebuilt every page and image from it as a static site on Cloudflare, with an editor in the browser. Events, discography, projects with Vimeo and Bandcamp embeds, a member roster that shows past members in grey, dark mode, and a header that gets out of the way on phones.

The orchestra's Instagram feeds a gallery on the site automatically every week, 489 photos so far, with thumbnails about 75% smaller than the originals so it stays quick.

How it turned out

Live, editable by the orchestra, and no longer dependent on remembering to renew a subscription.
